Today was the start of wind chills in the negative digits. It doesn’t matter if it feels like -10 or -30. Cold is cold, which is why I stayed home today. This chair is perched on our rooftop deck, obviously waiting for warmer weather.

Today is Hockey Day Minnesota where people from Winona to International Falls celebrate putting the puck where mama keeps the peanut butter. There are Pee Wee tournaments, high school contests, the University of Minnesota game against rival North Dakota, the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships, and maybe the biggest celebration, a very belated start to the NHL season. The Minnesota Wild took the ice tonight against the Colorado Avalanche, and I was there for warm-ups. It feels good to be back.

Postscript – The Minnesota Wild won 4-2. Tremendous conclusion to a day of hockey!

Sometimes after a long day you just want to sit on the couch with a cat in your lap. Arbus curled up tonight, and I couldn’t say no. Limited mobility caused me to get creative with my photo apps. This picture was taken with an iPhone 5 camera, then treated with InstaEditor, and finally given a filter in the BeFunky app. I thought the scratchy frame edges were a nice addition to the big kitty paw.

Diane Arbus was an American photographer who became well known for her black and white photos of the “unwanted” – the freaks, those not welcomed or accepted into society. So when husband and I went to the animal shelter, and were told that this kitty was from an unwanted litter, not properly socialized, there was only one thing we could do. We adopted her and named her Arbus. For an improperly socialized animal, she sure hangs out in our laps a lot. This is day 15 of Photo 365.
Amsterdam Bar and Hall is a great place to catch live music almost any day of the week in Saint Paul. My band t-shirts have doubled in number since it opened, and I’m okay with that. If you are walking by the establishment in the skyways, you can see the bar beautifully lit, as I did tonight. I also love this place because they have the best French fries outside of Belgium – curry mayo and all. This is day 14 of Photo 365.
It was bound to happen during this project. No time, no ideas. Just a Saturday running errands. That means day 12 of Photo 365 is a self-portrait.
The fog before the freeze. It was nearly 40 degrees in the Twin Cities today, and tomorrow it will fall to 10 with a stiff wind. So it felt like spring, wet and warm. This is Landmark Center in downtown Saint Paul, and day 11 of Photo 365.
