Checkmate

It was game night at the Saint Paul Union Depot. I didn’t partake in the games, but played with angles instead. At first glance this might look like a chessboard on a table. But it’s actually two foot high game pieces standing on a rubber mat.

I can attest the marble floors in the Depot were spotless on day 107 of Photo 365.

Union Depot glow

I was elated to find the restored concourse of the Saint Paul Union Depot cleared tonight. She’s a beaut, isn’t she? This is day 105 of Photo 365.

Death metal

In our quaint little Lowertown neighborhood there is one saloon that sticks out a bit more than most. Station 4 is the resident heavy metal bar that typically has lines wrapped around the block and big tour buses parked on the narrow streets. It’s not unusual for well known hard rockin’ bands to make a stop at this tiny place that only holds a couple hundred at maximum.

This mural painted on the outside of the establishment is both intriguing and horrifying, and the subject of day 93 for project Photo 365.

Easter Sunday glow

Sickness hit our house this weekend, so time outside was limited. When everything was cleaned and sanitized, and husband was on his second nap, I took a load off to enjoy the sun coming in through the living room windows.

This is day 90 of Photo 365.

Lowertown majesty

Those that know me or follow this blog are aware of the love affair I’ve had since 1999 with my neighborhood, the Lowertown district of downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota. Tonight I was once again struck by the architecture and beautiful cornices that grace the warehouses of the place I call home.

Twin Cities Public Television put together a terrific documentary on the urban village of Lowertown that I recommend for any history buff.

This is day 70 of Photo 365.

Drawing Circle

Lowertown Artists Gathering
Every third Sunday of the month, Ta-coumba Aiken and Lisa Mathieson host Drawing Circle at The Black Dog Coffee and Wine Bar in Lowertown Saint Paul. I have zero drawing talent, but the group is open and welcoming to anyone. I worked on photoshopping images, the gentleman next to me wrote poetry, and the rest of our community table drew. There were sparks of inspiration and good conversation with a side of coffee.

This is day 48 of Photo 365.

Cat’s eye view

Today my travels only took me a few blocks way from the house, to husband’s new studio space. As we were unloading equipment, I realized these stools had an interesting line to them, and was curious to see what they would look like from the floor, shooting up. This is day 13 of Photo 365.
