Our next door neighbors always leave their cute little boots in the hallway to dry.

Over the course of this Photo 365 project I have probably taken the most pictures of two structures – the Saint Paul Union Depot and the Saint Paul Cathedral. They are both close to home, easily accessible, and strikingly beautiful to me. This morning, as I sat at a stoplight looking at the building and clouds overhead, I realized I hadn’t yet captured the dominating immensity of the cathedral, towering on a hill that overlooks Saint Paul.

Tomorrow husband has a wine and cheese opening to officially debut photographs from his Highway 61 journey in the fall. I might have gone a little overboard on the cheese selection, but I never allow guests to go hungry. One of the cheeses that we’ll serve both in block form and in a fromage fort is Kerrygold, a sharp aged cheddar from Ireland. My mother introduced me to Kerrygold when I was a child. Her grandfather introduced it to her, and the love of this cheese has been passed down through the generations.

Highway 61: Minneapolis to Memphis is open Friday, December 13 at Never Mind Gallery in Saint Paul.
As I write this, it is -4 degrees and the windchill is -19 degrees. Tomorrow will be worse, with single digits during the day and a weather advisory -30 degree windchill temperature by evening.
This cold snap means morning sunrises are the prettiest pink and purple spectacles of the season.

Pop-up markets, especially around the holidays, are one of the unique and wonderful things that help make New York, New York. Union Square Holiday Market is big and bright and smells like pine cones and peanut brittle. Artisans sell their jewelry and handmade products, and vendors offers spices, herbs, oils and sweets. On the weekends the park is packed with locals and tourists alike.
I prefer a quieter pop-up market, and I was reminded of this on my recent trip to NYC. Bryant Park Winter Village isn’t as large as its competition, but there are still 125 booths with high class finery. Better yet, if you are looking to avoid the crush at Rockefeller Center, there is a skating rink, warming house and restaurant, all with a spectacular view of a huge, decked out Christmas tree.
Bryant Park Winter Village is located behind the New York Public Library, 5th Avenue at 42nd Street, New York, NY 10018. Want to read more about New York? Visit a summary of all Travel Snapshot New York posts.
