Artist in residence

Sketch-Artist-Lourve-Paris-LOW

This artist chose to sketch in the Jardin des Tuileries, just outside the Louvre in Paris. But what was he looking at? A family playing amongst the statues? A beautiful woman sunning herself in the morning light? I will always wonder what was on the other side of his sketch board.

Putin = Hitler

Protest-Paris-Ukraine-LOW

In Paris we encountered this passionate protest of citizens speaking out against Putin’s actions in the Ukraine. Translated, the sign reads, “Putin = Hiltler. Stop the war.”

Figueres cafe

At exactly 8:10 p.m. the shopkeepers in Figueres, Spain walked by this tiny cafe on a corner above the main town square, and either stopped in for a cerveza or kissed their neighbors hello on their way home. Locals already at the establishment with their friends and children noshed on olives and queso tomato sandwiches.

I have found so much “community” in Spain. A scene like this is a grounding reminder of what really matters – friends, family, food and togetherness.

Barcelona at play

In the shadows of Sagrada Familia lies a quaint park that was full of tourists, families, older men catching up on the latest news and couples enjoying a picnic when I passed by.

Barcelona Cathedral

The first day husband and I arrive in a new country, we take a stroll of the neighborhood to help shake the jet lag and collect our surroundings. The glorious Barcelona Cathedral was a nice prelude before Spanish tapas. Let vacation begin!
